Hi all..I'm heading out after I post this on a metal detecting hunt in the Williamsport/Cogan Station area..my daughter's boyfriend got us access to fields that used to be the fairgrounds from long ago. This will be my daughter's first real time out detecting so I'm hoping it's a good day for us..wish us luck.

UGHHHHH!!! My detector broke on me a few hrs into the hunt..the imaging/pinpointing button got stuck on it and all it would do was emit a high pitched squeal and was trying to use it was basically worthless..I was heartbroken, I have very few hrs use on it since last season when I got it. I just got off the phone with Garrett and sure enough..it shouldn't be doing that, lol..no kidding. So gotta send it back to them for a repair or replacement.

The old carnival grounds we were suppose to hunt, we couldn't..there were a bunch of men there on 4-wheelers, ripping and tearing around, we gave it a shot working one side of the field hoping they would stay clear of us but no..they had to mess with us and the one guy nearly hit me, trying to be a showoff, they were laughing as if it was so funny what he nearly did so we said screw it and headed to a large park in town instead. I found a handful of change, oldest coin was a dime from the 70's, an old square nail, old Budweiser bottle cap and the bottom/base of a lightbulb before my detector went wacky. Nikki and her BF got about the same..bunch of coins so they decided to head somewhere else to detect and I came home to sulk before heading to the plant tonight...so my first detecting outing of the season...sucked, lol.

Sue, that sucks that your detector went on the blink. Now that I have my stepfathers detectors I'll have a back up detector. I can't wait to get it out to try. I charged the batteries on it yesterday. We still have a lot snow on the ground here. Jim

I was playing with my Garrett and its messed up too, but opposite Susie.  My pinpointer button died completely.  Been needing a new coil anyway so I guess its time.

Knock on wood I've never had a problem with my Garrett 750. I've had it seven years now. Works the same as the first day I got it. I've learned through the years is to put batteries in the fall when you last use it. Jim

Suzie, that's a bummer! Is it covered by the warranty? I was looking forward to one of your stories of lost silver dimes, quarters, gold rings and other things that you guys found. Well, at least you can still go back to the old field day site later on. Smile, keep your chin up, at least you had some fun and found some coins before it broke.  Grin

I've been thinking of getting out myself this weekend. May take Luke with me. Raining here now so I'll not be metal detecting this morning. Suppose to rain late Saturday into Sunday. Jim

The weather here today is horrid, very high winds with rain, it stung when it hit ya. I just dropped my boy off in Williamsport for his college enterance exams and had hoped to go over to the fairgrounds field and play around till he was done but it was a huge muddy, swampy mess, (I know, I know..I have the Dirty Susie reputation to live up too but this would have been taking it to the extreme, far worse than that farmer's field from last year) why can't mother nature cooperate with me on my long weekends off, I have so few of them...
